WHAT’S THE SCOOP: GI JUICE

I plan on going in a little bit of a different direction with this from the usual articles in this series. That is because I am trusting you. I am trusting that you recognize the importance of eating whole foods. I am also trusting that you realize the need in the body for fruits and vegetables. I am also trusting that you are reading this because you probably are not getting enough fruits and vegetables. Instead of a blow by blow of every fruit, vegetable, and compound I want to make this easier to digest. We are going to look at two categories, Greens and Digestion.
GREENS
Greens powders are a generally accepted term to refer to a scoop of highly concentrated fruits and vegetables. In the case of GI juice, you are talking about thirteen different fruits and vegetables. These include blueberries, raspberries, carrots, sweet potatoes, and broccoli to name a few. For only 20 calories you can pick up an impressive eleven grams of greens equating to eight servings of fruits and vegetables. Keep in mind that greens powders do not replace what can be obtained through whole foods.
The body absorbs different compounds in different ways. When you eat a vegetable, you are also taking in the fiber and water from the vegetable. Mixing a scoop of greens powder and drinking it back you may still be getting fluid intake, but what about fiber? A cursory search of the web at greens powders revealed that many of them contained little to no fiber. Redcon1’s GI Juice clocked in with two grams, or seven percent of your daily fiber in a two-thousand calorie day.
Why take a greens powder then? The reality is that while greens powders may not be as effective as their whole food counterparts, you probably are not eating your fruits and vegetables anyway. Adding a greens powder to the mix has been shown to boost the immune system, help fight chronic diseases, and there is also potential for detoxification effects. Overall a good greens powder could be a good thing to help fill your daily needs.
DIGESTION
Here is where we can really see a difference between your run of the mill greens powder and Redcon1’s GI Juice. Digestion support built in. In strength sports, athletes consume a lot of food. From bodybuilders to powerlifters we all know what it feels like to have a seemingly endless parade of food through the day. While we may have different food groups and calorie counts, we all have a digestive system that breaks down that food into the nutrients we need. Redcon1 recognized this and built GI Juice to help make that process as effective as possible.
The ingredients in the digestion portion GI Juice are an interesting blend of compounds. Betaine HCL is the first ingredient on the list, it was touted as helping to keep stomach acid healthy, and while many still believe it does, testing by the FDA was inconclusive. Not to say that it has no effect, but that when tested it was unclear on how efficient it would be in the general population.
But that is only one ingredient. There are nine other ingredients making up the digestive support side of GI Juice. While betaine hcl may or may not affect your body chemistry, perhaps amylase, protease, pepsin, papain, pancreatin, ox bile, lipase, bromelain, or cellulase will. Looking over that list you may recognize the amino acids pepsin, a naturally occurring part of the human digestive system. You may also be stuck on why you would ever ingest Ox Bile.
Ox Bile is an ancient medicine. Its first recorded use was five hundred BC! With that length of use in human medicine, maybe there is more to this than a rather off-putting name. Ox Bile has been proven to reduce the size of gallstones, remove toxins from the body, and may help psoriasis and help liver function. Not to mention that supplementing with bile can also improve nutrient absorption, for say something like, greens powder.
The combination of compounds on the digestive side is varied enough that while each compound may not have an impact independently, you are hitting a wider range to gain the benefits of what your body does need. A healthy gut can make a huge difference in even just being comfortable throughout the day and is sometimes overlooked.
PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER
GI Juice was blended with a specific goal in mind. Redcon1 developed the formula for athletes who have had their gallbladder removed. Instead of needing a spread of powders and pills the goal was to create a single serving to do the job. Available in two delicious flavors I would say that they accomplished their goal. GI Juice is easy to mix and tastes great.
Redcon1 recommends a serving with your breakfast in the morning, but also acknowledges that it can be taken any time throughout the day. Due to the great taste, you may even find yourself reaching for a scoop before another soft drink! If you are missing out on your nutrients or are looking for something to help regulate your gut, GI Juice may be just what you are looking for.
